The Danish designer Vibeke Fonnesberg Schmidt has created some unique design tables from recycled materials.

The tables are the second installment of my project on sustainability and the use of recycled materials in furniture making. You can see the first project on my homepage.

The tabletops are made of leftover materials from the Danish kitchen manufacturer Multiform and are constructed of wood, laminates and handpainted wood. The project was carried out at the National Workshops for Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen.

I always work with geometrical shapes but it is important for me to add some sort of distraction. In this case the randomness of the materials I use makes a contrast to the strict compositions. It is a way of making order in the chaos of different materials.  I work with right angles because all the plates I get from the factory have right angles and in this way I minimize the waste.  The composition of the tabletops resembles a classic check pattern as we know it from tablecloths but it is no longer a pattern since there is no repetition.

The tables are approximately 92 x 190 x 74 cm. The tabletops have been lacquered and the metal frames are painted in different colors.
