The textile furniture: hot furniture news in a cold time. Upcoming designers occupy Stockholm Furniture Fair 2010

Unfold the Scandinavian design scene is the motto for the Stockholm Furniture Fair 9th - 13 February 2010. Design Students from Danish Design School are showing their talent with furniture based on textile selection.

For furniture designers, it is common to select fabrics, when everything else is in place. But what if you turn everything upside down: take the fabric and let it dictate how the furniture should be?

This challenge was given students from the Danish School of Design and it provoked them into thinking differently. Teacher Andreas Lund explains "We wanted our students to be surprised and to surprise us back. This they did, even making furniture, which in many cases was so complete that they easily could go into production"

The 16 furnitures are now presented at the Stockholm Furniture Fair to 40,000 visitors.

Headteacher Anne-Louise Sommer proudly send the 16 projects out into the world: "At Danish Design School we have a long tradition of material experimentation. In the exhibited projects material and shape experiments go hand in hand. The quest for innovation is key, and the unconventional way of this design process, make surprising marks to the finished furniture. Both process and outcome show that the students can use and connect different inputs in a new way, making exiting furniture, she says.

Textile bubbles, furniture origami, a 'Secret Club House' and a sculptural 'Chair Force One'. The 16's furniture is designed by students across the lines of Textile Design and Furniture design, taught by Grethe Weber, Thomas E. Alken, Andreas Lund, Denmark's Design School.
