Arik Levy er Guest of Honour på Stockholms møbelmesse, som løber af stablen til februar næste år.

Han er blevet kaldt videnskabsmand og poet, Arik Levy − Guest of Honour på Stockholm Furniture Fair og Northern Light Fair 2011. For ottende år i træk kreerer en international designer en lounge, som nu igen placeres på messens entrétorv.

Designer, tekniker, kunstner, fotograf, filmmager: Arik Levys talent spænder vidt,

og man finder hans værker i berømte gallerier og museer over hele verden. Levy er globalt respekteret for sit møbel- og lysdesign, ligesom han skaber hi-tech-tøj og accessories for virksomheder i Fjernøsten.

– Vi vil fortsætte med at vise de grænseoverskridelser mellem forskellige designgenrer, som vi påbegyndte sidste år med Paul Smith. Denne gang vil vi udforske grænselandet mellem design og kunst. Arik Levy er en af samtidens mest spændende og innovative designere, og vi bliver tiltrukket af den måde, han bevæger sig frit mellem forskellige discipliner, mellem masseproduktion og unikke objekter, mellem enkelhed og eksperiment, siger Cecilia Nyberg, projektleder, Stockholm Furniture Fair og Northern Light Fair.

Arik Levy blev født i Israel i 1963 og er i dag aktiv i Paris. Han studerede industridesign ved Art Center Europe i Schweiz. Han har undervist ved École Nationale Supérieur de Création Industrielle/Les Ateliers i Paris og arrangeret workshops på et antal designskoler i Europa. Han har også skabt scenografien til moderne danseforestillinger på Grand Théatre i Geneve, det hollandske danseteater og Batsheva Dance Center i Israel. I 1997 startede han sammen med Pippo Lionni virksomheden Ldesign, og siden har de haft opgaver for designvirksomheder som Vitra, Desalto, Molteni, Frag, Ligne Roset, Zanotta, Swedese og Serralunga. LDesign består i dag af 20 designere og grafiske formgivere og arbejder også med branding, emballage, grafisk profilering, udstillinger og boligindretning.

– Det er en stor glæde for mig at være æresgæst på Stockholm Furniture Fair og Northern Light Fair. Messen repræsenterer for mig mere end blot en præsentation af nordiske møbler. For mig handler det også om nordisk kultur, design og identitet, som jeg respekterer og beundrer meget. Jeg har haft mange dejlige oplevelser i Sverige og ser frem til at komme tilbage igen, fortæller Arik Levy.

Levy betragter primært sig selv som en ”følende designer”, som arbejder med vores ydre og indre miljø. Hans arbejder omfatter skulpturer til offentlige miljøer, men også komplette miljøer, som kan tilpasses flere formål. “Livet er et system af tegn og symboler”, siger han, “hvor intet er, hvad det ser ud til at være “.

Han har haft udstillinger på bl.a. Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Galeries Lafayette,

Paris; Museum of Modern Art, New York, Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Pascale Cottard- Ollsson Gallery, Stockholm og ISART Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, München.

He has been called a scientist and poet, Arik Levy − Guest of Honour at Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair 2011 "Design is an uncontrolled muscle" Arik Levy Designer, technician, artist, photographer, filmmaker, Levy's skills are multi-disciplinary and his work can be seen in prestigious galleries and museums worldwide. Respected for his furniture and light designs on all continents, Levy also creates hi-tech clothing lines and accessories for firms in the Far East. "We want to continue to show the crossover between different design genres, which is something that we started last year with Paul Smith. This time we want to explore the boundary between design and art. Arik Levy is one of the most exciting and innovative designers of our time and we are attracted by his way of moving freely between various disciplines, between mass production and unique objects, simplicity and experiment," says Cecilia Nyberg, Event Manager, Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair. Arik Levy was born in 1963 in Israel and now works in Paris. He studied industrial design at Art Center Europe in Switzerland. He has taught at École Nationale Supérieur de Création Industrielle/Les Ateliers in Paris and held several workshops at a number of design schools in Europe. He has also designed stage sets for modern dance performances at the Grand Theatre in Geneva, the Dutch dance theatre and Batsheva Dance Center in Israel. In 1997, he established the company LDesign together with Pippo Lionni. Since then they have designed for companies such as Vitra, Desalto, Molteni, Frag, Ligne Roset, Zanotta, Swedese, Serralunga. LDesign today consists of 20 designers and graphic artists and produces brand identities, packaging, signage, exhibition and interior design. "It is a great pleasure for me to be the Guest of Honour at Stockholm Furniture Fair and Northern Light Fair. The fair represents more than just a gathering of manufacturers in the industry; for me it's also about the Nordic region and Scandinavian culture, design and identity, that I greatly respect and appreciate. I've had many wonderful experiences in Sweden and I'm looking forward to this new opportunity of being there," says Arik Levy. Considering himself now more of a "feeling" designer, Arik Levy continues to contribute substantially to our interior and exterior milieu, his work including public sculpture as well as complete environments that can be adapted for multi use.
